The Rowena Group Mourns Louis Nelson, Industrial Designer and Rowena Group Chair Emeritus

We are saddened by the death of Louis Nelson, Industrial Designer, and Rowena Group Chair Emeritus, on December 4, 2024. We celebrate his life and achievements. Louis received his ID Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Pratt Institute. He was one of the founders of the Rowena Group and its chair for 14 years. He spearheaded the Elements of Design book project. We will miss his leadership.

Louis significantly contributed to the industrial design profession, making a better world. His design accomplishments include the mural for the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.; the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Medal, posthumously awarded to those who lost their lives while serving in a United Nations peacekeeping operation; the Nutrition Facts on America’s food packages; and information systems and signage at Logan Airport, JFK, Air Train, NY World Trade Center, and NYC subways.
